Monroe St - 5 - Week, Intermediate Teapot Class with Leo! 5/19 - 6/16 , 10AM-12PM (SUNDAY)

Once a week every Sunday. Classes will consist of 5 consecutive morning sessions.

This 5 week class will explore wheel-thrown teapots. Students will create multiple functional teapots during the class. Students will create these teapots with an emphasis on throwing with intention and creating a coherent form with a unified feel throughout all combined aspects of the teapot. During the class we will go over different types of lids, handles, and knobs. Class will include a group critique, and a day for glazing. Some throwing experience is suggested. 

*Class include a bag of clay. Can use reclaim clay for free.

Class 1: Introduction to class. Sketch out ideas for teapot forms. Demos on throwing teapot bodies and gallery types lids. Spout demo.

Class 2: Assembling teapots day. Demo on making knobs, Demo on attaching spouts.  Students will pull handles, trim teapots and lids. 

Class 3: Last wet clay day! Throw more teapot bodies, lids, and spouts, as well as thrown side handles. Demo on additional lid types recessed lid and combined gallery+flange. Make a tea set with cups if you have extra time. 

Class 4: Final assembling day, pulled knobs, sculpted knobs. Students may throw additional spouts at the beginning of class if needed. All teapots should be finished and drying after class. Group Class Critique.

Class 5: Glaze day. Waxing lid areas, adding water on spout and tea strainer. Glaze bisqued teapots! Show examples of spouts functioning.

Class fee includes unlimited use of clay during class time and the ability to keep up to 10 finished pieces.

Everything you make will be food, microwave, and dishwasher safe.

*Please note 1 more visit will be required after the end of class to pick up your work.

All students should be at least 17 years old.

Cancellation Policy: Full refund if canceled 15 days before class. 50% refund if cancellation is 10 days prior to first class. No Refund after this 10 day period. FULL REFUNDS ARE SUBJECT TO A 5% SERVICE FEE.

Make Up Policy: Quick make-up sessions are possible in a 30 minutes increment before and or after a pre-scheduled ongoing class.

*Please note individuals with long nails might find it difficult to use the potter's wheel. We highly advise trimming your nails prior to the course!

*If possible, please bring an apron and or towel to keep yourself clean, but there is always a chance you can get a little dirty. Clay is a non staining material that washes out with ease.

Practice, practice! Studio membership is available to students who have completed a 5 week class. Students receive a first month membership discount of $90, clay is purchased in studio at $38-$40 per 25# bag.
