Helpful Tips for Success
Wall Thickness: Keep clay walls about ¼” thick. Avoid pieces over 9” across or extremely thin forms, as they can crack or slump in firing.
Attaching Clay: Scratch + slip method works best (score the surfaces, add slip, press firmly). Note: bone-dry clay cannot be attached.
Underglazes: Apply 2–3 coats. Mix colors using the color wheel principles. They can be painted on leatherhard or bone-dry clay.
Transport: Allow work to firm up (leatherhard or bone dry) before drop-off for best results.
When Will My Pieces Be Ready?
After drop-off, your work will go through bisque firing, clear glazing, and glaze firing.
Finished pieces are typically ready in about 4 weeks.
Pick up during the same studio’s public hours:
Monroe St. – Tuesdays, 11 AM – 2 PM
University Ave – Thursdays, 3 PM – 6 PM
