MONROE ST - 5 - WEEK BEGINNERS Hand Building Class, 9/29-10/27, 6 - 8 PM (Monday)
Once a week every Monday.
This is a 5 week class focusing on hand building projects with an emphasis on texture. Students will make a variety of functional projects while learning three basic concepts of hand building. Pinch pots, coil making, and slab building with be covered. Time will be given to learn how to glaze projects in the last week of class.
Class 1: Intro to the studio, tools and rules- focus on pinch pots. Examples of projects are trinket dishes, sculptures, and bud vases. They can be carved when leather hard to add texture.
Class 2: Focus on coil building. Examples of projects are Luminaries (holiday themed), and bowls.
Class 3: Focus on Slab Building. Project examples are small charcuterie boards and vases. Emphasis on texture pressed into clay such as stamps, fabric, etc.
Class 4: Finish up any remaining projects. Carve texture into leather hard pieces. Students can keep up to 10 pieces of fired work.
Class 5: Glaze Day! The finished work will be ready to pick up in approx. 2 weeks.
*Please note 1 more visit will be required after the end of class to pick up your work.
All students should be at least 17 years old.
Policies:
Cancellation: Full refund if canceled 15 days before the first class. 50% refund if canceled 10 days prior. No refunds after this period, subject to a 5% service fee.
Make-Up Sessions: Quick make-up sessions available in 30-minute increments before or after pre-scheduled ongoing classes.
Preparation Tips:
Participants with long nails are advised to trim them before the course.
Wear clothes suitable for getting dirty.
